A Roman villa was discovered in the eighteenth century but poorly recorded. More Roman material, including coins, painted wall plaster and mosaics, was yielded by excavations early in the nineteenth century and a field survey early in the twentieth. The full extent and plan of the villa are unknown despite the parch marks which are occassionally visible from the air.
