21-year-old Amanda Edwards, a Swindon nursery nurse at Little Foxes Nursery School, Brinkworth, Chippenham, disappeard under suspicious circumstances on Friday, April 9th, 2004, after dropping off her boyfriend at Calne. Her body was discovered a week later at a building site in The Knoll, Malmesbury, Wilts..
Her car was discovered by her family abandoned in a car park at Asda later in the day. Fears for her safety grew when it was found that her mobile telephone was switched off and her bank account had not been touched.
In a bizarre twist, the body of Ian Cortis, her murderer, was found hanged at a house in Woodsage Way, Calne.
48-year-old Ian Cortis from Swindon, had formerly lived in the Grange Park area of Swindon, near the car park where Amanda's car had been found abandoned on the day of her disappearance.
Cortis had been arrested on Monday, April 12th, 2004 in connection with Amanda's disappearnce and released on the following Thursday, after four days of questioning.
His body was found at a house in Woodsage Way, Calne, on the afternoon of Friday, April 16th, 2004. the married father of two had worked as a plasterer on the building site where Amanda's body was found.
