This pretty village of old stone cottages set amidst orchards lies to the north of ancient Cadbury Castle, allegedly the romantic King Arthur's 'Camelot'.
The large parish incorporates the hamlets of Galhampton and Woolston with a total population of about 900.
The magnificent parish church in the Perpendicular style, dedicated to St Micheal the Archangel, dates from the 15th century.
The parish comprises the villages of North Cadbury, Woolston and Galhampton with a total population of about 900.
In William the Conqueror's Domesday Book of 1086, the village is recorded as 'Cadeberie', the name derived from the Celtic 'cadaer' and 'borgh' - a reference to Cadbury Castle, 'the fortified hill', to the south.
The Manor, in the Hundred of Catash, was in the same ownership as that of South Cadbury.
North Cadbury Court, 'The Court', next to the parish church was built in 1591 on the site of a former house. The South front was added in the late 18th century.
Hall Cottage, joined to the Village Hall, is probably the oldest building in the village, dating from the 14th century.
Bristol House in Woolston Road is named after the mail coach which called there on its journeys between Bristol and Southampton. It now the village shop and Post Office.
The Catash Inn in Cary Road was named after the Hundred of Catash in which the village is situated.
It is thought that the meeting place of the Catash Court was at Three Ashes, on the Sparkford�Galhampton Road.
The Village School, also in Cary Road, was built in 1875, catering for the children of the village aged between four and eleven and those of the surrounding area.
