Wanted & Lost

Lying on the harsh but picturesque north Cornwall coast where the hills are cut by steep valleys cut by streams as they energe into the sea between the cliffs which mark the end of Bodmin Moor, Port Gaverne is a seperate community from Port Isaac which occupies the adjacent valley.

It developed in the 19th century as a port engaged in fishing and handling coal, limestone and slate. Ships were also built here. The advent of the railways and predominance of road transport led to the decline of the tiny port in the early 20th century.
