This page was created on December 13th, 2004, primarily as a tool for Site Managers to be able to monitor and edit image uploads to the site and, likewise, for Members to monitor and edit the images they have uploaded.
We have thousands of images on the site and the database will be current for all the images created after the page was set up. Over the comming months we hope to list and caption all of the images on the site and provide a search facility on this page so that all users can quickly locate images by searching the captions (e.g.: searching for "Royal Oak" and "Swanage").
In the meantime, a simple search is provided below;-
At the time of writing, in January, 2005, we have about 2,000 images of varioius descriptions on the site and about 7,000 on file, many of which we hope to publish on the site by the end of the year. The vast majority of these are photographs which are taken from public rights of way, whether they be of buildings, street scenes or landscapes or landscape features. The majority of the images published on the site are as low resolution, usually 280 by 210 or 224 pixels or other dimensions within a 60 thousand pixel limit.
Sad to say, these images are published deliberately at a low resolution so as to be, as far as possible, of no use to anybody with an alterior motive such as house-breakers, and, on enlargement, offer little extra information;
Detail from published photograph of the junction of Church Road in Wanborough and Kite Hill which drops to Lower Wanborough enlarged five times the published size image submitted by and copyright of webmaster on Fri., January 7, 2005 at 17:06h | | |
We hope that the photographs which we do publish reflect and augment the locations described and can be enjoyed by the viewers of the web-site without anyone feeling that their privacy is invaded.
We are concious, however, that there are security and privacy issues involved in the publication of photographs, whether it be on the internet or otherwise and, if any person raises an objection to an image of their property being published or security being compromised (examples being such as valuable items in churches), please contact us by clicking here to email details of the image concerned and the nature of your concern and/or objection and we will remedy this as soon as possible.
Please note, however, that while we may remove any images from the web-site, where these are derived from originals taken in such a manner as permission to take them from any landowner is not required, we reserve the right to retain the images in our library for future as historical documents and they may be published at some stage in the future although we will endeavour to (and/or ensure that any successors to the ownership of the site) obtain permission from any registered objectors wherever possible.
Examples of such use are when an area is redeveloped.
