The daughter of Sir John, the hereditary Warden of Savernake Forest in Wiltshire, Jane was lady in waiting to Henry VIII's first wife, Catherine of Aragon.
Comming to the attention of the king at Savernake, Jane Seymour became his third queen after the execution of Anne Boleyn by beheading on May 19th, 1536.

Lady Jane died on October 24th, 1537, shortly after giving birth to Prince Edward, later to acceeed to the throne as King Edward VI.
After Jane's death, Henry VIII treated the Seymour family favourably; Edward Seymour became Lord Protector during the regency of his nephew, Edward VI; Thomas Seymour became Lord High Admiral.
