Anthony Charles Lynton "Tony" Blair (May 6th, 1953), became Leader of the Labour Party in 1994 following the death of John Smith, and later became Prime Minister of the United Kingdom in 1997, bringing the Labour Party into power after 18 consecutive years of Conservative rule.
His stated priorities on coming to office in 1997 were "education, education, education". In his second term as Prime Minister, he extended this list to include other public services, particularly the National Health Service.
He will probably be best remembered by history, however, as the Prime Minister who took Britian to war with Sadam Hussein's Iraq in support of the USA's new-found zeal against "terrorism" folowing "September 11th", ostensibly to destroy Iraq's weapons of mass destruction which were never found.
