Wareham Forest Way is a waymarked footpath which runs through 19.5 km (just over 12 miles) of some of the less well known landscapes in the northern area of the Isle of Purbeck from the ancient Quay in picturesque Saxon walled town of Wareham (SY925873) to connect with the Stour Valley Way at Sturminster Marshall (ST953003) along footpaths and minor roads.
The path crosses the watermeadows of the river Piddle from Wareham and enters conifer plantations and heathy areas of Wareham Forest. To the north of the A35, it passes through the gently rolling countryside with a patchwork of small fields and woodland.
A short and well-marked diversion in Wareham Forest leads to
"Woolsbarrow Fort", an Iron Age "hill fort" with spectacular views from the high vantage point of the surrounding countryside over the tree-tops.
A foldout guide to the footpath, Wareham Forest Way, produced by Purbeck District Council with a sketch map of the route, brief directions and descriptions of the main places and points of interest along the route can be purchased as part of the Isle of Purbeck walking pack. The pack also includes the Purbeck Way. The map may be obtained by calling Kirstie McConnell on 01305 225037.

An OS Landranger map (sheet 195) is useful on this walk.
