The village lies about ten miles to the north=east of Wells.
The church, dedicated to St James, with its fifteenth century tower has a whitewashed interior dating from many periods. Because the population moved east towards the turnpike road, St James' escaped the Victorian restoration which many churches underwent.
The chancel arch and south doorway date from the twelfth century, the pews are medieval and Georgian and the nave roof is of the fifteenth century. The pulpit, reader's desk and south and west galleries date from the seventeenth century.
The church contains fascinating fragments of wall paintings from many periods.
The church, cared for by The Churches Conservation Trust, is usually open.
