William Kethe served as Rector of Child Okeford in Dorset from 1561 until 1608, during the reigns of Elizabeth I and James I. He is best remembered for his hymn "All people that on earth do dwell".
The Rev. Kethe also turned many Psalms into metrical verse and one of these, based on Psalm 104, was later used by Sir R Grant for his hymn "Oh worship the King, all glorious above".
Whilst exiled in Switzerland in the 1550's, he worked on the translation of the Geneva or Breeche's Bible (published in 1568) of which the Parish Church at Child Okeford is fortunate to possess a copy.
Kethe is buried in an unmarked grave in the churchyard of Child Okeford Parish Church.
