James Stuart (1633-1701), James II of England, James VII of Scotland, King of England, Scotland and Ireland.
Born at St James's Palace on October 14th, 1633, the third son of King Charles I of England, James succeeded to the trhone on February 6th, 1685.
King James fled Britain on December 11th, 1688, effectively ending his reign in England and Scotland. The English Parliament declared his abdication on January 28th, 1689 and the Estates of Scotland followed on April 11th, 1689. He continued to reign in Ireland until the Battle of the Boyne on July 1st, 1690.
James Stuart never officially abdicated and continued his claim to the thrones of England, Scotland and Ireland until his death in 1701.
James Stuart died in exile at Saint-germain-en-Laye, near Paris in France on
September 16th, 1701.
