Popularly known as Cuckoo Flower or Lady's Smock or Milkmaids, Cardamine pratensisk is in the Brassicaceae (mustard and cabbage) family.
The flowers are usually a pale blue, sometimes white and close overnight or during rainy weather. They appear in April although they are most profuse in May and June.
The meadow froghopper is attracted to the sap of the plants, its larvae forming the frothy masses on the stems known as "cuckoo spit".
It grows in moist to damp areas such as Pond margins and damp meadows, particularly at their margins in partial shade. Itnaturalises well in areas of longer grass.
