The village lies about five miles north-east of Wells.
Although much of the church, dedicated to The Blessed Virgin Mary, standing on a ridge of the Mendip Hills dates from an eighteenth century, its siting and plan are suggestive of Saxon origins.
The base of the tower, which rises to a parapet with crocketted pinnacles at the corners, originates from the
thirteenth century. Inside, the fittings date from the eighteenth century, the nave has a barrel ceiling and there is a decorated plaster freize at the east end.
The church, cared for by The Churches Conservation Trust, is usually open.
