The village lies about twelve miles north-east of Weston-super-Mare.
The church, dedicated to St Michael, stands high above the medieval Court to the west of the village and overlooks the industrial sprawl of Portishead.
The fabric of the building dates from the thirteenth century, the oldest visible part being the twelfth century tympanum. The church possesses good carved stonework throughout, a thirteenth century screen, reredos and benches. There is also a curious fourteenth century font and a grand late seventeenth century monument.
The church, cared for by The Churches Conservation Trust, is locked but a key is usually available in the village.
