The first mention of the Queen's Head as a hostelry dates from 1738 although part of the building in Milborne Port's High Street dates back to the reign of Queen Elizabeth I and is a Grade II listed building.
This very popular Free House has great charm and character offering two comfortable bars, dining room, conservatory and skittle alley. The skittle alley and dining room can both be used as function rooms for parties or meetings. Bed and Breakfast accomodation is also available.
The Queen's Head has an enviable reputation for the quality and variety of beers served, which include five real ales, three lagers and two ciders.
The standard of food is very high and booking is strongly recommended to avoid disappointment. The menu is extensive and varies from traditional Steak & Kidney Pie through to Mexican Fajitas. Vegetarians also have a varied choice. There are many " special food days" including:-
Sunday | Superb Roast Dinner ..... £5.50 |
Monday | Two Course Meal..... £5.50 |
Tuesday | Free bottle of wine with every food order over £17.50 per couple |
Wednesday | Curry Day, which includes a free drink with every curry ordered |
Thursday | Two steak meals for the price of one |
The atmosphere in the pub is very friendly and people seem to go out of their way to make strangers feel welcome - just like the 'old days'.
Why not visit the Queen's Head soon and you'll see what we mean. Who knows, you may even see the pub's 'friendly' ghost.
Purse Caundle Manor, a few miles to the south-west of Milborne Port is frequently haunted by the sound of plainsong and other aparitions have been seen and heard there including a spectral huntsman calling the ghostly royal hounds to heel. |
