Royal physician to King Henry VIII.

Linacre was a great scholar and he took holy orders in 1520. He founded the Royal College of Physicians to which he made a gift of his library.

He obtained letters patent from the monarch to establish lectureships in Medicine at Oxford and Cambridge.
