THE BUILDING OF THE PRIORY
According to tradition, the Priory was to have been built on St Catherines Hill but the materials to start the work would be hauled up the hill during the day and would be mysteriously found at at the bottom of the hill thus forcing the monks to build the Priory in the valley below.

MONK ON THE STEPS TO THE TOWER
There have been reports of sightings of a monk-like figure at the top of the steps to the
Priory Tower. In some of the cases, the witnesses claim to have felt a distinct nudge as they passed the figure - a decidedly unpleasant experience to be had at the top of steep stairs. Page Contents

THE DRAPER CHAPEL
Within the body of the Priory itself is the small Draper Chapel which perpetuates the memory of John Draper, the last prior here, who died in 1552.

It may be due to Draper's friendship with Thomas Cromwell that the Priory Church was left intact at the Dissolution of the Monasteries while the remainder of the monastic buildings were torn down.

Sightings of a silent, hooded monk have been reported in the vacinity of the Draper Chapel. Page Contents

SERIES OF INCIDENTS IN 1972
One of the Norman arches of the Priory required repairs in 1972 and, during the works, the congregation was sometimes disturbed by knocking noises on Saturdays and Sundays when the workmen were not working.

There were also other disturbances at the priory at about the same time; a door on the south side was found open; several people, including Ronald Smith the head verger at the time, reported smelling incense in the priory - something which had not been used there for many years previously.
