The Bournemouth and Poole Electricity Company set up operations at Bargates in Christchurch to provide the town with it's first electricity supply in 1903.
The electricity supply allowed a tram service to be established between Christchurch and Poole two years later and powered the new trolleybuses which replaced the trams in 1936.
It was not until 1934 that an electricity supply was installed in the Priory.
There is now a Museum of Electricity at Bargates.
